Cartagena Luxury Vacation Rentals

Decked out with Miami-based designer Juan Carlos Arcila Duque’s contemporary panache, this beautiful 11-bedroom colonial retreat occupies a special corner of Cartagena’s historic centre.

One of the city’s most recent landmark luxury villas, the project was completed in December 2013.

Despite its prime position in the thick of the action in close proximity to the best restaurants in the city – Don Juan, La Perla and Frank & Frank – this is a low profile luxury vacation rental option that offers big groups plenty of privacy.

Originally designed to be luxury apartments, the elegant house also operates as a hotel so it pays to book well in advance to ensure you get the place all to yourselves.

Made up of four luxury apartments, Arcila Duque’s design provides some spectacular public meeting places, like the grand salon on the second floor, but with plenty of thoughtful divisions that allow guests to enjoy ultimate privacy in their beautifully decorated bedrooms.

The 17th century mansion is distributed evenly into four apartments with 8 double beds and 3 singles spread over three floors. Three duplex apartments and a more intimate one bedroom corner apartment can be hired as individual rooms, family apartments or the entire house.

A wonderfully sculpted spiral staircase connects the rooms with a spacious roof terrace and barbeque area, which is the cherry on the cake for sun-lovers and visitors looking for a secluded colonial getaway.

Arcia Duque throws together plenty of contemporary European touches including vintage chandeliers and mirrors to uplift the muted linen soft furnishings that eschew the maximalist scream that became the trend for many of Cartagena’s early 21st century refits.

Cooking classes, yacht hire and massages are not included in the price of the house rental but can be arranged through This Is Cartagena’s in-house concierge services. Just ask how it works.

Depending on the boy-girl make-up of your group, the property can sleep up to 19 people with a total of 11 beds (8 kings, 3 singles) spread between 11 generous bedrooms.
